Successfully Dating recommends Cult DVD movies that will
help you build an entertaining movie library. You must keep in mind
that some of the strangest movies are released, make little or no
money at the box office, then continue on to become favorite
movies for generations. Our
recommendations will help you find the cult movies and the classics that you should have, so you can be prepared to pull out an
entertaining movie to watch, at any time, that your dates and
friends will actually want to watch.

Donnie Darko - This unclassifiable but stunningly original
film obliterates the walls between teen comedy, science fiction,
family drama, horror, and cultural satire--and remains wildly
entertaining throughout. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Donnie, a
borderline-schizophrenic adolescent for whom there is no
difference between the signs and wonders of reality (a plane crash
that decimates his house) and hallucination (a man-sized,
reptilian rabbit who talks to him). Obsessed with the science of
time travel and acutely aware of the world around him, Donnie is
isolated by his powers of analysis and the apocalyptic visions
that no one else seems to share.

Evil Dead - Special Edition - In the fall of 1979, Sam Raimi
and his merry band headed into the woods of rural Tennessee to
make a movie. They emerged with a roller coaster of a film packed
with shocks, gore, and wild humor, a film that remains a benchmark
for the genre. Ash (cult favorite Bruce Campbell) and four friends
arrive at a backwoods cabin for a vacation, where they find a tape
recorder containing incantations from an ancient book of the dead.
When they play the tape, evil forces are unleashed, and one by one
the friends are possessed. Wouldn't you know it, the only way to
kill a "deadite" is by total bodily dismemberment, and soon the
blood starts to fly. [Also see 'Evil
Dead 2' and 'Army
of Darkness']

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Upon its release in
1975, the film was an astounding flop. But a few devotees
persuaded a New York theater to show it at midnight, and thus was
born one of the ultimate cult films of all time. The songs are
addictive (just try getting "The Time Warp" or "Toucha Toucha
Touch Me" out of your head), the raunchiness amusing, and the plot
line utterly ridiculous--in other words, this film is simply
tremendous good fun. Watched alone as a straight movie, Rocky
Horror loses a tremendous amount of its charm. Yet, for those who
wish to perfect their lip-synching techniques for movie theater
performances or for those who want to gather a crowd around the TV
at home for some good, old-fashioned, rowdy fun, this film can't
be beat.
